I am a Professional Hair and Makeup Artist offering my personalised style of applying makeup and styling hair, for a variety of special occasions and corporate projects. I am an interactive person and love being a part of the preparations and exciting atmosphere that surrounds weddings, special occasions, photo shoots and such events. Hair and makeup artistry is my passion and I really am grateful for the opportunity to provide this service as my job.
I really enjoy that working in this ever-evolving industry allows me the opportunity to meet and interact with so many wonderful and interesting people. I love to be creative and I am in my element when presented with a new challenge. I pride myself on being prepared, organised and prompt and will always give my best in achieving the end result that my clients are looking for.
My interest in beauty and cosmetics began when I started my first part-time retail job in a beauty shop to make some extra money, while attending high school. We were encouraged to wear the products and market them on ourselves to boost sales. We were more than happy to colour ourselves with nail polish, eyeshadow and accessories. Ever since, my curiosity in beauty and love of cosmetics have only multiplied, as has my personal stock of makeup and beauty accessories.
While finishing my BCOM degree in Management I completed a Professional Makeup Artistry course with the intention to expand my knowledge in order to enhance my daily makeup routine. I studied through The Makeup Studio, owned and run by Donna Courtney-Leaver, in Bryanston. I graduated from the course in September 2011 with a new aspiration to combine the reward of applying makeup with the reward of running my own business. Miss Glamour-Eyes was born and I began to practice and learn from as many other artists as I could, taking on every available opportunity to improve my skills. I am so grateful to each of them who gave me their valuable time and believed in me enough to let me find and build my way.
I then completed a Professional Hair Styling course through Belle Ame, run by Liezl Zene Joubert, in November 2013. The reason for wanting to expand my skills was so that I could further assist other hair and makeup artists and offer both services to my clients as a convenient combination. There is an additional sense of achievement in being able to couple a makeup look with the right hairstyle and it has been a very enjoyable learning experience ever since. I was also exposed to other stylists’ methods and styles allowing me the chance to learn and develop even further.
Last year I was invited to be a part of the makeup artist team for the 2016 Mrs South Africa pageant and was trained and accredited by Sorme’ Treatment Cosmetics South Africa. This was an unforgettable experience, working with a fantastic and talented group of women in a completely new and exciting environment. The shared commitment to produce the highest standard of work was inspiring and really revealed our true capabilities. We were really supported and appreciated by the contestants and our makeup brand. I felt very fortunate for the opportunity to be involved in an event with such a positive and powerful platform.
Once I reached the point where I had settled into the new scope of the business and was confident in my new role I decided it was time to design a new look, representative of the artist that I have become. Hair and makeup by Jen felt like the perfect reflection of me, and had the simplistic and fresh feel that matched my hopes for the next chapter.
